Brief History

The Institute for Humanities Research and Indigenous Studies of the North (IHRISN) is an institution of science, which is a part of the Siberian branch of the RAS (SB RAS). The Institute was founded 06.06.2008, the Resolution of the Presidium of SB RAS № 454 of 27.12.2007 by reorganization in the form of a merger of two research institutions - the Institute of Problems of Indigenous People of the North of SB RAS and of the Institute of Humanitarian Researches of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Basic Directions of Scientific Activity

Resolution of the Presidium of SB RAS № 107 of 21.02.2008 approved the basic directions of scientific activity:

a comprehensive study of the development of languages, ethnic culture and history of the people in the Russian North-East, including the study of languages, literature and folklore of people the Republic Sakha (Yakutia)and the indigenous people of the North;

study of languages, literature and folklore of peoples the Republic Sakha (Yakutia) and the indigenous people of the North;

study of cultural and historical processes on the territory of modern Yakutia in the Paleolithic, the Neolithic, the bronze and iron centuries, the middle ages, and ethnogenesis, ethnic history, the transformation of traditional cultures and the specific mentality of the people the Republic Sakha (Yakutia).
